Session Description

March 13 will mark the one-year anniversary of the National State of Emergency Declaration for COVID-19 which prompted a precipitous halt of live events. The industry immediately flipped into a range of defensive moves to maintain engagement with communities served via digital activities, as well as efforts to maintain cash flow to keep organizations afloat.

There is hope in today's event marketplace, signs there is light at the end of the tunnel. Though how close is the face-to-face industry to that moment of reopening? Which events are apt to open first, and what is the most likely timing?

What factors do organizers need to keep in mind as they ruminate the decision to cancel, postpone, reimagine, or stay the course with their 2021 schedule? Should digital be considered as an alternative, a value-add, or thought of in another way?

This fast-moving session will highlight key trends from CEIR's latest COVID Impact and Recovery Tracker Survey with US B2B exhibition organizers and the Global Virtual Event Trends Series documenting what is typically included in today's virtual events, participation rates and financial outcomes.

Leading the discussion will be Nancy Drapeau, PRC, Vice President of Research with Center for Exhibition Industry Research (CEIR). CEIR's mission is to conduct objective research, monitoring trends in the B2B exhibition industry.

You will learn …

  • Where the US B2B exhibition industry is today

  • The positioning of digital in the event mix now and outlook for 2022

  • Forecast outlook for the industry through 2022 – factors to monitor in the fast-changing business environment

  • Considerations for strategic planning moving forward
